Goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed as a section of Navy market Borokiri in Port Harcourt City Local Area, Rivers State has been burnt down by fire.
The fire was said to have been caused by constant fluctuation
of electricity supply to the market.
Two of the Victims Mr. Ufot Dick and Blessing
Ayeches said it was a shock to them as they lost all their goods to the fire.
Similarly, Mr. Promise Isaiah and Loveth Briggs said
they have been rendered jobless and pleaded with the government to come to
their aid.
The victims expressed displeasure that Rivers State
fire service station close to the market could not help them out.
While speaking in an interview, a
fire man at the state fire service station in Borokiri,
Mr. Thompson Casmir attributed the failure of the fire station to rescue the
situation to lack of firefighting equipment.
The Navy market which been there for more than six years
has never had any fire incident.
