It was gathered that a teacher, who resisted being whisked away by the kidnappers, was thoroughly beaten and left by his assailant, who probably thought he had died.
Southern City News learnt that the teacher was left unconscious at the bank of a river where he was later found by a search party.
An eyewitness said, “While some of them (kidnappers) were beating the teacher, others dragged the corps member, students and a teacher into a speed boat and sped off.
It was learnt that the school was immediately closed as a result of the incident, even as the management maintained that they had yet to be contacted by the kidnappers.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, confirmed the incident. He said four persons were kidnapped, adding that the police had since swung into action with a view to apprehending the hoodlums behind the act.
“We received the report of the abduction of two females, a teacher and a youth corps member and we are doing all it takes to safely rescue them,” the state police spokesman stressed.
