Police Hinders Bank Robbery In Port Harcourt

 
An attempt by a seven-man gang of bandits to rob a popular bank bullion van of its hundreds of millions of naira was foiled by a crack team of special anti-robbery squad from the Rivers state police command at about 5pm on Wednesday, October 14.

Eyewitness said a robbery operation by armed robbers who laid siege on a bullion van of Diamond Bank regional office located in Trans Amadi in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The police detectives who were tipped-off swooped on the robbers who had succeeded carting millions of naira stacked in bags inside an abandoned operational vehicle, which was taken to the command’s headquarters located along Moscow road, Port Harcourt.

As at the time our reporter got to the scene, heaps of bundles of cash of  1,000 naira denomination were seen stuffed inside a Lexus GX 470, SUV with plate number Rivers KRK 209 BX.A senior police officer revealed that the fleeing hoodlums numbered about seven, were fully armed and operated in two vehicles.
State Police Public Relations Officer , Ahmad Muhammad, a deputy superintendent of police confirmed that the command received a distress call few minutes after 5pm, and responded swiftly.Muhammad stated that the robbers abandoned the vehicle containing the cash and escaped with another vehicle.
