BAILOUT FUND TO BE ACCESSED BY HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

Rivers State House of Assembly has authorized Governor Nyesom Wike to access the sum of fourteen point sixteen billion Naira from the bailout fund of the Federal Government.

The House's approval was sequel to a correspondence from Governor Wike which was read during plenary by the Speaker, Mr. Daboturidima Adams.

In the letter, Governor Wike explained that the ten billion naira earlier approved by the Assembly from the bailout fund, was not accessed, because it was not granted.

According to the Governor, the fund would be used for payment of civil servants’ salaries and pensioners.

The House also during plenary, committed the Port Harcourt Polytechnic Bill 2016 to committee stage.

The Lawmakers in their submissions commended the executive for considering it necessary to change the name of the Rivers state College of Arts and Science, noting that the change would attract more funding for the institution and create the opportunity for candidates seeking admission into higher institutions.

However, some of the lawmakers called for the relocation of the Polytechnic from Port Harcourt to an area where no such institution exists.

This according to them would ensure even spread of development in the state and give the people a sense of belonging.
