The people of Ogoni have been called upon to be
patient with the Federal Government over the implementation of the UNEP Report
on oil impacted sites in the area.
The call was made by a traditional ruler in Rivers State, Mene Suanu Baridam, while reacting to the seemingly slow pace of the clean up exercise after it was launched in June this year by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mene Baridam who said the level of devastation in the area was enormous, noted that it would take time and careful implementation of the UNEP report to restore the devastated land.
Mene Baridam who
is also the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the Movement for the
Survival of Ogoni People MOSOP, dispelled insinuations that there was crisis
within the leadership of MOSOP.
The traditional ruler emphasized that the rumuored crisis in MOSOP leadership was the handiwork of those who do not wish the Ogonis well.
Mene Baridam said the leadership of MOSOP was intact
and was working assiduously to ensure successful implementation of the UNEP
report.
