The
trial of the accused persons allegedly involved in the killing of the four
University of Port Harcourt students, popularly called ALUU Four, was again
adjourned yesterday to the 27th of this month.
The
Presiding Judge, Justice L.I. Nyordee, adjourned the case for hearing after
cross examination of the sixth witness, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr.
Ayalebuchi Oji, who was the leader of the Police team, sent from Isiokpo
division to rescue the deceased persons from the angry mob.
Counsels
to the accused persons argued that the proceeding has stayed longer than
necessary and urged the trial judge to close the cross examination of
witnesses from prosecuting counsel.
Speaking
to Journalists after the proceedings, the Director, Department of Public
Prosecution, Otoribio Ibikiri who is also the prosecuting counsel maintained
that the prosecuting team has given its best to the trail.
Also,
Counsel to the seventh accused person, Obidaya Mbama, expressed dissatisfaction
over the delay in the trial that has lasted for four years.
The
four Uniport students were murdered by an angry mob at Omokiri in ALUU, Ikwerre
Local Government Area on 5th October 2012; while the hearing on the matter
commenced on 23rd June 2013.
