Devoted wife, 93, thanks hospital staff for 'moving heaven and earth' to keep her and dying husband together

Peggy and Peter White
Devoted Peter and Peggy White spent the final days of their 73-year marriage together, thanks to kind hospital staff.

The loving couple had been admitted to Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital at the same time, but for different reasons.
And when the medical team discovered they were in different wards, they went all out to bring them together.
For the last three weeks of his life Peter, 95, spent every day with the love of his life Peggy, 93, sharing memories.
Sadly, former merchant seaman Peter passed away on February 2, leaving Peggy heartbroken.
However, daughter Joyce, 67, insists that the kindness of staff in allowing her parents to be together until the end brought comfort to the entire family.
She told Daily Record : “My father should have been going into a different ward, but when staff realised my mum was there, they put him into the same ward.
“The two of them were so happy to be together.
“Each day the staff would take my father in his special wheelchair, from the male room round to see mum in the female room or mum round to see him,
“They would have lunch or sit and talk, it was amazing, The staff were absolutely wonderful.
“My dad was meant to get out to go to Erskine Care Home, he was just waiting on transport and mum was due out on the Friday.
“But he never made it. He passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning. It was a shock, we didn’t expect him to go.
“The time that they were both together at the RAH in the same ward, but separate rooms, it was wonderful.”
Joyce is also grateful that hospital staff arranged for her mum to get discharged a day early.
“They pulled out all the stops to get mum home as soon as possible. That meant the world to her.
“We are both so grateful. They made his last couple of weeks so happy. They couldn’t have done more.
“It has made it so much easier for my mum and me and my brother and the rest of the family.”
