Fraudster gets a lucky escape in CBD!

AN alleged ATM fraudster was rescued by cops from angry shoppers in the Uitenhage CBD on Saturday morning. The suspect allegedly robbed shoppers of their banks cards at an ATM near Ncedo Taxi Rank.

Shopper Jennifer Joseph (34) from Rosedale said: “I sent my daughter (17) to withdraw money from an ATM at about 9am. But the man came behind her pretending to help her. He gave my daughter an old bank card before disappearing.
“She said he was wearing a black T-shirt. Later, we went to the bank R1 300 was withdrawn from my account. When we saw a commotion at the mall at about 11am, where a man was cornered by the people. My daughter screamed that it was him!”
Police spokeswoman Warrant Office Gerda Swart said: “It is alleged that the card was found in his possession. He was detained on a charge of theft and will appear in the Uitenhage Magistrates Court today.”
