Amidst the clamor for diversification of the
economy, the Federal Government says it is poised to harness the potentials of
science and technology for national development.
The Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Ogbonnaya
Onu stated this during an inspection of the Raw Material and Research
Development Council in Port Harcourt.
Professor Onu said the visit to the centre was part
of ongoing efforts by the government to beef up the ministry’s facilities
nationwide which are to provide technical support for economic growth.
Professor Onu explained that the sector holds the
key to transforming the country from an importing to an exporting nation.
He also explained that the viability of other sector
of the economy depends on the application of science and technology.
The Minister of Science and Technology reiterated
that the country is yet to reap the full economic advantages derivable from
agriculture.
