Ethnic crisis

The Igbo Community in Eleme Local Government area of Rivers State have reacted to the alleged killing of an Igbo man by fulani herdsmen.

the man who was a butcher at Nchia market in the area was said to have been involved in a misunderstanding with the alleged killer.

Reacting on the matter, the chairman of  Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a pan socio-cultural organization in Eleme, Dr. Okorieocha Christopher, called on security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators were fished out and brought to justice.
Other Igbo leaders in the state who spoke with Treasure FM correspondent including the Deputy state chairman of Ohanaeze, Chief  Innocent Mbah and the National youth Secretary, Mr. Peter Okoro condemned the act but appealed to their people to give peace a chance.
The Igbo leaders urged herdsmen and other business operators in the state to embrace peace as no meaningful development could be achieved in an atmosphere of rancour.
our correspondent reports that efforts to reach the Hausa community in the area proofed abortive.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the area, Mr. Johnson Nwogu, had earlier assured residents that the security agencies were on top of the situation calling on the people to live peacefully with one another.
