LATEST ON NUPENG STRI KE

Negotiation between the Rivers State Government and the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, on how to resolve the ongoing strike is to continue today.

NUPENG had embarked on an Industrial strike last week following the sack of its members by Fideson Nigerian Limited and Uniterm Limited who are contractors to Shell Petroleum Development Company.
Addressing Journalists at the end of the first round of meeting with parties involved, Commissioner for Information, Mr. Austin Tam-George said the government is worried about the hardship on the people caused by unavailability of petrol.
Mr. Tam-George said the companies have also agreed to recall workers who were affected when consultation is concluded.
The Commissioner for Information said further discussion will also ascertain the reason for the sack, as workers have the right to assemble and pursue their common interest and also belong to their professional unions.

The negotiation meeting will be attended by NUPENG State Executives, Representatives of Fideson and Uniterm Limited and the Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Mr. Shedrack Chukwu.
