As
Nigeria joins the rest of the World to mark International Day of Peace, Rivers
State Deputy Governor, Doctor Ipalibo Banigo, has called on the leadership of
the Nigerian Police to establish police posts in all villages in the State to
enable the people have easy access to security during emergency situations.
Doctor
Banigo made the appeal in a statement by the Press Secretary to the Deputy
Governor, Mr. Paul
Damgbor, stating that the absence of police stations in most of the
villages and communities in the State has undermined security watch as
criminals escape at ease before the arrival of security operatives to the scene
of crime.
On
the observance of this year’s celebration with
the theme “Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace”, the Deputy Governor said it is apt, as it
focuses on issues of poverty, hunger, social inequality and corruption which
are great impediments to peace and catalysts for conflict.
Doctor
Banigo called on the people of Rivers State to embrace the prevailing peaceful
atmosphere in the State by shunning all acts capable of undermining security in
order to fast track the development of the State.
