Controller General of Customs Laments on tricks Used By Businessmen

 

Comptroller General of Customs, Retired Colonel Hameed Ali says Ninety five percent of Nigerians involved in importation of goods do not comply with regulations.

Retired Colonel Ali who made the assertion during an interactive meeting with stakeholders in the maritime industry in Port Harcourt decried the level of wrong declaration of consignments by importers.
Retired Colonel Ali wondered why business men would prefer to cut corners and short change government in their business.

The Comptroller General, who stated that the operations of Nigeria Customs are being modernized in line with global practices, added that the current operational policy which was put in place in 1958 would be reviewed to comply with current business trends.

The stakeholders’ interactive meeting is a platform for freight forwarders, custom licence Agents, importers and others involved in the maritime industry to brainstorm and chart a new course to fast track transactions at the ports.
