Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has charged Caretaker Committee
Chairmen to prioritize workers salaries.
Governor Wike who gave the charge at the swearing in ceremony of twenty
Caretaker Committee Chairman in Port Harcourt said it was not going to be
business as usual where money allotted to the council is shared amongst
political leaders.
He stated that back logged of salaries owed council workers must
be paid before money is allocated to new chairmen.
The Rivers state Governor said the state government will also
deduct from allocation of local government councils who refuse to remit taxes.
He charged the newly inaugurated chairmen to be domicile in their
LGA and work in synergy with security agencies to fight against crime and
criminality in their domain.
Last month Governor Wike signed into law the Rivers State
Amendment law number 5, 2016 which empowers him to extend the appointment of
caretaker chairmen up to nine months.
